Thirty-six frames

The Olympus XA gives me thirty-six exposures and no preview. A month in, I notice I look longer before raising the camera — the scarcity moved the work from reviewing to seeing.

Most interfaces optimize the reviewing: infinite shots, instant feedback, undo everywhere. I wonder what we’d design if we optimized the seeing instead. A form you fill once, carefully. A post you can’t edit for an hour. Thirty-six frames.
